Dr. Cripton is a faculty member in the Division of Orthopaedic Engineering
Research. He also directs the UBC Injury Biomechanics Laboratory in
the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Cripton has been performing
research in the field of biomechanics since 1989 and has research interests
in spine biomechanics, spinal cord injury, injury biomechanics, and
the design and development of engineered devices, instruments and techniques
that are used during spine surgery. Prior to joining UBC, Dr.Cripton
was a Managing Engineer in the Philadelphia office of Exponent Failure
Analysis Associates. At Exponent, between 2001 and 2003, Dr. Cripton
performed biomechanical reconstruction of specific real-world injuries
to determine the mechanisms of injury. Dr. Cripton performed analyses
of injuries that occured during automobile collisions, at the workplace,
during sporting activities and in public or home environments. Prior
to working at Exponent Dr. Cripton was a postdoctoral Associate in the
Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Yale University where
he worked in the Biomechanics Laboratory. Dr. Cripton obtained a Bachelor
of Science in Mathematics from Dalhousie University in 1987, a Bachelor
of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University
of Nova Scotia (Now Daltech) in 1990, a Master's of Science in Mechanical
Engineering from Queen's University in 1993 and a PhD in Mechanical
Engineering from Queen's University in 1999. Dr. Cripton's PhD was collaborative
between Queen's and the M.E. Mueller Institute for Biomechanics at the
University of Bern in Switzerland where the majority of his PhD research
was performed. |
